The History of Lalgola M. N. Academy

Lalgola Mahesh Narayan Academy, popularly known as M.N Academy, is one of the premier educational institutions in the district of Murshidabad, West Bengal, India. It is situated in Lalgola, a semi town, under Lalgola Community Development Block, on the bank of the river Padma in Indo-Bangladesh Boarder.

It was founded by the great philanthropist Maharaja Rao Jogeendra Narayan Roy, (Kt. C.I.E) of Lalgola Raj State on 8th January, 1914 for the advancement of education of then rural Bengal.

From its very beginning it marked its footprint in the educational landscape of eastern India and attracted students not only from the surrounding areas but also from other districts and neighboring states of undivided India.

The school was recognized under Calcutta University till 30th April 1951. After that it became a Government Aided school under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

It started offering old multipurpose HS course in 1958. It got the recognition from west Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education for new Higher Secondary courses in 1976.

All the three streams of Science, Commerce and Arts are taught here successfully till date in H.S course.

Apart from these core streams it also has Vocational Streams to empower the young aspirants by developing their skills in various trades for their future career and further education.

The building is scattered around the vast area spanning more than 7 acres of land with a cluster of two storied blocks namely Old Building (OB), Jogeendra Bhawan (JB), Community Building (CB) etc.

The crimson red coloured Old Building is revered as a heritage building for its architectural elegance.

The school has advanced Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biological science, Geography and also for Computer Science.

All sorts of modern educational infrastructure with computer aided learning along with multimedia facilities supported by a battery of high class experienced benevolent teachers are always there for the all-round development of the students.

A well-organized school Library for the students in the school building along with a homonym heritage Public Library (1913), studded with lots of books and journals of historical importance, adjacent to it in the same compound has added extra privilege to the milieu of the school.

The school has a large Art Gallery of nearly 2000 sq. foot of floor area in CB. The state of the art ‘Gallery’ is filled with lots of creative artworks such as Paintings, Sculptures etc. made by eminent artist of modern time. It is set up by the full patronage of Alumni Association of this school. It would always entice the art lover to visit it at least once in a life time. The serenity of the clean and calm environment of the compound would be long cherished in the visitor’s mind.

There is a large open-air stage, namely Madan Mohan Manch, in the school compound with all sorts of modern amenities to organize any kind of large cultural programme.

The big playground covered with lush green natural carpet in front of the school acts as lungs for not only the students of the school but also for the people of Lalgola.

Sri Barada Charan Majumdar, the first headmaster of the school is highly revered as great Yogic Person. The school was served by so many renowned personalities like Shri Haricharan Chowdhury, Shri Manmath Nath Roy, Shri Sharadinu Pandey, Shri Madan Mohan Roy, Shri Ramesh Chandra Roy, Shri Alok Sanyal etc.

The fame and glory of the school attracted eminent personalities like Acharya Haraprasad Sastri, Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, Kazi Najrul Islam, Sri Dilip Roy, Acharya Ramendra Sundar Trivedi, Sri Debabrata Biswas, Sri Soumitra Chatterjee, along with many more dignitaries of national and international importance.

Lalgola Mahesh Narayan Academy Praktani Sansad, the alumni association of this school, is a new feather on the crown of this glorious school. So many luminary personalities, scattered all over the world, are the dignified alumni of this school. We are proud of our alumni and want to associate with all of them.
